Basic Principles of Fashion Designing

Fashion designing is something that has been very fascinating and lucrative industry for people with a creative mindset. It not only takes a lot of creativity and designing skills for anyone to come up with fashion designing concepts, but also, sound knowledge about the factors that rule the concepts to be aesthetically, conceptually and practically feasible. Hence, a clear understanding of the basic fundamentals of fashion designing is necessary to create applicable designs.

Even though all designs are a composition of the fashion designing elements, the basic principles of fashion design rule the overall appeal of the design for it to be successful and aesthetically pleasing. For people who are aspiring to be successful fashion designers, it is important to have in-depth knowledge about what works in fashion designing and what doesn’t. Your designs can be subjected to criticism if design principles are not followed in the designs.

Basically, there are 4 principles of Fashion Design which are explained as under:

1. Emphasis:

There are multiple techniques that may be utilized by the fashion designers in order to emphasize on a specific feature of the lifestyle accessory or a fashion accessory. These techniques can be a combination of the embellishment or cut outs, ruffles or peplums etc.  Accurate information about the color theory and its use at appropriate places can help make certain areas of the design stand out as compared to others. Hence, detailed information and knowledge about the emphasis regarding which area can be emphasized using which colors in the attires and designing can help you create designs which are appealing.

2. Balance: 

Fashion Designing involves the use of features such as seams, hemlines and necklines to strike a balance in the designs. Symmetric designs are more preferred over asymmetric ones, however, asymmetric balance can be effective as well in certain cases. In the recent few years, asymmetric designs have gained popularity while it is a work of extended efforts to strike a balance in the asymmetric designs.
